New Horizons Care Center Update
December 9, 2020 - New Horizons Care Center has ZERO COVID-19 positive residents! 39 have recovered and unfortunately 10 have passed away. Of the 52 positive staff members only five are currently out ill and two more are out on quarantine for exposure. And only one COVID-19 patient is at North Big Horn Hospital currently.
Governor Mark Gordon has enacted a state-wide mask mandate, along with changes in gatherings, beginning today. Please go to https://health.wyo.gov/publichealth/infectious-disease-epidemiology-unit/disease/novel-coronavirus/covid-19-orders-and-guidance/ to view the latest Wyoming Public Health orders. The new orders received approval from the Wyoming Medical Society, the Wyoming Primary Care Association and the Wyoming Hospital Association.
The new restrictions come as COVID-19 cases have begun to dip in the state, but still sit at dangerous levels. Under 5,000 active confirmed infections were reported in Wyoming on Monday, but health officials have worried the holidays could push the state to unsustainable levels.
As of December 8th, Big Horn County is still reporting 75 active cases and our surround counties have many more active cases. We must all continue to wear masks, practice social distancing, and wash/sanitize our hands often. We are at a crucial time to stop the spread of COVID-19.
As a reminder almost everyone over 6 months of age should have an annual seasonal influenza vaccination. It is especially important this year so that our healthcare system is not overburdened with influenza cases in addition to COVID-19. Please call the clinic to schedule an appointment for your flu shot if you have not. This vaccination will not prevent COVID-19 but will help our healthcare system and community.
If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please call North Big Horn Hospital clinic at 307-548-5201 to schedule an appointment to be seen. If your symptoms are severe, including shortness of breath, altered mental status or severe headache, please call the hospital at 307-548-5200 and advise them that you will be coming into the ER.
